The town of Okotoks was established back in 1904 and the name Okotoks comes from the Blackfoot First Nation word for rock. There is some speculation the name was given to the area because of the Largest Glacial Erratic rock in the area known today as The Big Rock. Originally the community was created around the Lineham Sawmill that was built along the Sheep River in the late 1800’s, and grew to be the town we see today.

Today Okotoks provides a comfortable lifestyle to its residents with many recreation activities on offer including golf courses, curling, swimming pools and more. The town also boasts ample boutique and name brand shopping to consumers.
